Psalm 29:11 ( KJV; 1611 EDITION ) reads as follows:
"The LORD will giue strength vnto his people ; the LORD wil [ sic ] blesse his people with peace."
This article is in response to an article in today's edition of newsvine.com, entitled - "Obama's Myanmar speech layered with popular appeal." In that article, the claim of strength through diversity, of people, is made. This claim gives rise to the question - "How can there be strength through diversity?"
Matthew 12:25 ( KJV; 1611 EDITION ) reads as follows:
"And Iesus knew their thoughts, and said vnto them , Euery kingdome diuided against it selfe , is brought to desolation : and euery citie or house diuided against it selfe, shall not stand."
What Jesus said in Matthew 12:25 is the exact opposite of the claim of strength through diversity. Furthermore, Jesus ( see John 17:1 ) prayed the following in John 17:20-23 ( KJV; 1611 EDITION ), namely:
"Neither pray I for these alone ; but for them also which shall beleeue on me through their word : that they all may be one, as thou Father art in mee , and I in thee, that they also may bee one in vs : that the world may beleeue that thou hast sent mee. And the glory which thou gauest me, I haue giuen them : that they may be one, euen as we are one : I in them, and thou in mee, that they may bee made perfect in one, and that the world may know that thou hast sent me , and hast loued them , as thou hast loued me."
Jesus, in praying for all believers ( see John 17:20-26 ), desired oneness - not diversity. This unity among Christians ( see Acts 11:26, for example ) is also stressed by the apostle Paul ( see 1 Corinthians 1:1 ) in 1 Corinthians 1:10 ( KJV; 1611 EDITION ), which reads as follows:
"Now I beseech you brethren by the Name of our Lord Iesus Christ, that yee all speake the same thing, and that there be no diuisions among you : but that ye be perfectly ioyned together in the same minde , and in the same iudgement."
Thus, while the church consists of a diversity of people ( see Acts 2:41, 47 ( KJV, KJV; 1611 EDITION, and NKJV ), Acts, chapter 10 ( especially verse 35, for example ), and Romans 6:10 ( NKJV, for example ), for example ), there must be no religious division among Christians. Let us all understand that there is no strength through religious diversity.
Sincerely in Christ,
Russell E. Willis
